PubMed
A wonderful resource of over 9 million quality records from the medical/scientific literature. Database and indexing are complex, so although sophisticated searches are possible, best results are achieved by keeping search terms relatively simple. The ability to find similar entries by clicking on “See Related Articles” means that if you have one on-topic reference, you can easily find more. Be sure to download the searching instructions, which are updated on a regular basis.

The Hardin Meta-Directory Public, Occupational and Environmental Health
Created by the Hardin Library for the Health Sciences at the University of Iowa, it is a veritable “yellow pages” of useful sites. It also emphasizes quality and has instituted a self-policing function, whereby a link checker is used to check the connection rate on lists that are included in the directory. Generally the lists with the better connection rates are toward the top of their size category. The links on their own web pages boast a better than 98% connection rate – that is they work! From this site one can gain entry to occupational health resources in Scotland, Korea, Australia and Scandinavia, to name a few.
